  • Short Game Practice: 11-Ball Drill
The 11-ball drill is a simple diagnostic tool that golfers can use when practicing - in order to make their practice more effective. What parts of the game are you good at around the greens? Which parts of the short game do you need help with? The first step in improving is identifying the areas in which you most need improvement, and that's what the 11-Ball Drill is designed to do for your short game.

  • 'Golf Digest' Benching Tiger Woods
Golf Digest is suspending publication of Tiger Woods' monthly playing tips, according to a report in the New York Post on Tuesday. The Post said the "announcement" is revealed in a line within the editor's note in the February 2010 issue.

Golf Digest is a Conde Nast publication, and a Conde Nast spokesman would not comment to the Post on whether Woods will continue to be paid while articles with his byline are withheld, and nobody at Conde Nast or the magazine has commented on how long it expects to keep the Woods-bylined articles out of the magazine.

  • Power Lines on the Golf Course
Are there any golf courses in your area that have power lines stretched above and across some fairways? There are a few of these situations in my hometown, including at an upscale resort that once hosted a PGA Tour event.

So let's say you're playing such a course, and are on a hole where power lines cross the fairway. You blast a drive, admire it as it soars high and long - only to see the ball smash into those power lines and careen off course or drop straight down to the ground. What to do? What are the options or requirements under the rules in such a situation?

See our rules FAQ, Do I get to replay the stroke if my golf ball hits overhead power lines?

  • Making It Official: Tiger Player of the Year
The PGA Tour's Player of the Year award - a k a the Jack Nicklaus Award - is based on voting by PGA Tour members. And the winner of the vote for the 2009 season is ... Tiger Woods. Woods wrapped up the PGA of America's Player of the Year award some time ago, and everyone knew he'd win the PGA Tour's version, too. The votes just needed to be counted.

It's actually not that common for a golfer who failed to win a major during the year to win the Player of the Year award on the PGA Tour. Winning majors is the biggest deal in the golf world, and Woods didn't win any of them this season.

But the guys who did win the majors - Angel Cabrera, Lucas Glover, Stewart Cink and Y.E. Yang - didn't do enough in the rest of their seasons to overcome Tiger's six total victories, his scoring title and his money title. It's the 10th time Woods has won the PGA Tour Player of the Year award, by far the most.

Also today, the Tour announced that Marc Leishman is the 2009 Rookie of the Year. No rookies really stood out in 2009, but Leishman was the only one to qualify for the Tour Championship, and posted three Top 10 finishes.
